Art Genre: Painting

Hey! I’m Brooke Ochs (pronounced oaks). I’m a lifelong Utahn and live in Eagle Mountain with my family.

Art has always been a passion of mine, but in the last few years I have really dedicated time to grow as an artist. Thanks to a few superb mentors and friends and lots of time painting, I have been guided to find myself as a folk artist.

In my life I have, like so many others, experienced times of great sadness and pain and trauma. I am a positive person for the most part, so the idea of joy juxtaposed alongside heartache is a recurring theme for me. My artwork is often painted on black paper using bright, opaque gouache. The contrast leads to the heightened brilliance of the colors — much as the hard times make the good times so much sweeter.

I grew up in the shadow of Mount Timpanogos and often hiked the myriad trails in Utah. I am deeply inspired by nature and find God and solace in the beauty and peace I find out of doors. I seek to capture and interpret the feelings that nature gives me and I hope others can feel the joy of caring for Mother Earth.
