Art Genre: Oil and Watercolor Painting

Barbara Kidd is an artist who is inspired by the beauty that surrounds her. Born in San Francisco and raised outside of Portland, Oregon, Barbara moved to Salt Lake City nearly 30 years ago. She has discovered just how much beauty there is throughout this state.

Barbara’s goal is to translate these experiences onto canvas in a way that captures how she responds to the scene. She might have been stirred by the dramatic light of a backlit cloud or the intense colors discovered during an early evening stroll.

Originally trained as a watercolorist, Barbara now enjoys painting with oils too. Many paintings begin “en plein air” with finishing touches completed in studio.

When not painting, she may be found teaching at the Visual Art Institute. She is a Signature Member of the Utah Watercolor Society, member of Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and holds a master’s degree in psychology.
